WORD OF THE DAY - Monday 05 September 2011 from Mykolaiv, Ukraine

Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— (1 Peter 2:2 ESV)

Most Holy and Merciful Father in Heaven ~ Thank you for this new day and the unusually beneficial circumstances that are given to us by your abiding presence and care. Give us wisdom as we daily study and apply the Scriptures to our life so that we will continue to grow in step with your Spirit and be prepared for eternal life. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

A nice young couple recently moved to Nikolaev from Kherson because he found work here as a computer programmer. Ilya and Lilly visited the church once when we were in Magadan and we hope they will find time to meet with us this week. Our brother Nikolay Gagarkin and his wife Olya were with us for worship and their daughter Zhenya. We don't get to see them much since his work is now in Kiev. They still have a place here and they have some activities that bring them back here on occasion and for that we are most thankful. Ruslan was in town due to the recent death of his mother. He lives and works in Kiev where he is a member of the Obolon Church of Christ. During the period of fellowship, Ruslan frankly shared with tears, many details of his conversion to Christ while he was incarcerated in the federal penitentiary for drug related crimes. He spoke very persuasively with the young couple that had just moved here and others hoped that he could talk to one of their relatives who is having similar problems. We are constantly reminded of the power of the gospel to change lives! After our time of getting better acquainted, we went downtown for some shopping that we never got done due to running into people. Our young friend Nastya who lives near the center of the city, was hanging around as usual, and she needed someone to talk to. After spending time with her, we called our "daughter" in the faith Olya and she came to meet us and picked up our notebook computer to take to her father who has a computer business. After we had a snack and tea with Olya, we put her on the bus home. We are very thankful for the many opportunities to serve the Lord here in Nikolaev. We have much work to do today in making arrangements for where the visiting preachers will stay and telling them details of information they will need.
