WORD OF THE DAY - Sunday 31 May 2009

He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. (Acts 10:42 NIV)

Most Holy and Righteous God, our dear Heavenly Father ~ Thank you for this new Lord's Day on which millions of people enjoy the freedom to assemble in worship to the name of Christ our Blessed Savior. Help believers not to overlook this honorable duty and comfort those who have no approved place to worship nor the protection of their government. In Jesus name, Amen.

WORD OF THE DAY - Friday 29 May 2009

Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV)

Almighty God, our Most Kind and Merciful Father in Heaven ~ Thank you for the beauty and mystery of life on this new day that over bubbles over with increasing evidence of your presence and power. Help us to execute our donations and good deeds with sheer joy as we realize that we are not giving to be noticed by other people but we are giving to Christ who gave us His all. In Jesus name, Amen.

Photo: Some Christians in Magadan who stayed for a while after worship services. Pray for Ilya (in Galina's lap) and his brother Misha - that their parents will come back together. They have been separated for almost all Ilya's life. But, now there is a small glimmer of hope for the children to have both parents.

WORD OF THE DAY - Thursday 28 May 2009

Jesus did not let him, but said, "Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." (Mark 5:19 NIV)

Most Holy God, our Merciful Father in Heaven ~ Thank you for the magnificent gift of life on this new day that brings fresh challenges and opportunities along with your blessings. Give us wisdom and courage to be more bold and effective in telling the story of our own wonderful salvation to our family and friends. In Jesus name, Amen.
Photo: Magadan - November 2008. A small group is trying out some of the new song books that Galina and I brought from the Eastern European Mission office in Donetsk, Ukraine. The church is constantly learning new songs to use in worship services. After they learn it, they no longer need to look at the music and just use the words they print in their own song sheets.

WORD OF THE DAY - Wednesday 27 May 2009

And as he taught them, he said, "Is it not written: 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations'? But you have made it a den of robbers." (Mark 11:17 NIV)

Most Righteous and Holy God, our Heavenly Father ~ Thank you for blessings too numerous to count on this new day, as we consider the holy tasks that we are called to do for Christ. We are privileged to be in a country where churches may have their own houses of prayer without any hindrance from government officials. Please help those Christians who must meet in secret because some repressive regime is determined to make it difficult for believers to express their faith. In Jesus name, Amen.

Photo: We are approaching Kennedy Airport in New York on our flight back from Kiev, Ukraine. We experienced the usual exhilaration at seeing America after being gone, but our hearts are clinging to those dear ones we left behind in Nikolaev. We have already begun our planning for another trip there and this time we hope to take along some additional workers so that we will be able to have good teachers for those people who are interested in knowing more about Jesus Christ and His glorious plan of salvation. Please let me know soon if you would be interested in accompanying us as a teacher on this next mission trip to Ukraine.

WORD OF THE DAY - Sunday 24 May 2009

Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:20-21 NIV)

Almighty God, our Dear Heavenly Father ~ Thank you for the boundless joy we experience on this new Lord's Day. Bless Christians around the world today as we consider the supremacy of your Church, the Kingdom of Heaven on this earth. Help us to realize that no earthly throne or palace compares with the grandeur of what is the true nature of the spiritual Kingdom. In Jesus name, Amen.

WORD OF THE DAY - Saturday 23 May 2009

"Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD." (Jonah 2:8-9 NIV)

Almighty God, our Kind, Merciful and Glorious Father in Heaven ~ Thank you for the splendid new displays of your creative power on this new day. Help us to overcome the weakness of requiring signs, pictures and symbols before we know to whom we must pray. Give us stronger faith in Christ who became visible to some people who lived centuries ago, as we dig deeper into the Holy Spirit inspired Word and obey our Lord for the forgiveness of sins and the hope of eternal life. In Jesus name, Amen.

WORD OF THE DAY - Friday 23 May 2009

His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of a man; the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. (Psalm 147:10-11 NIV)

Almighty God, Eternal and Holy Father in Heaven ~ Thank you for the gift of life that pulses within our being on this new day. Help us to cast all our cares and hopes on Christ our Lord who has all love, strength, power and wisdom to carry us safely through all of life's difficulties. Forgive our foolishness when we think all strength resides in our mortal bodies. In Jesus name, Amen.

We are back in USA. We arrived home last night around 11.30. Our dear daughter Laura (Mrs. David White) met us in Atlanta upon our arrival and we spent a short time catching up on various family news. On the one hand it is refreshing and stabilizing to our mental and physical health to be here, but then again, we already miss our new friends of Christ in Ukraine. Today, we are hoping to find that visa invitation in the mail from the church in Magadan. If so, we will be busy preparing and mailing our applications for new visas to Russia. In addition, my five year visa to Ukraine expires later this year - while we plan to be in the Harvest Field, so we will also need to get that taken care of. We are so thankful to our neighbors across the street - Tom and Suzy Taylor for watching out for us while we are gone and getting our mail. This dear brother and sister in Christ help ease some of our concerns while we are in the Field. There are so many of you partners, that regularly pray for us and send us notes of encouragement as well as whatever other support you can. Thank you! It is a great joy to be able to do this work with you for Christ our dear Lord.
