WORD OF THE DAY - 04 September 2010 from Mykolayiv, Ukraine

Since our day today will be devoted to the boys at the Boys Home, and we will be working some at the church meeting place, we decided to do some shopping late yesterday at the central market after the vendors moved what they still had out onto the street. They line up and sell from the trunks of their cars or from the back of their truck or trailer. They are in a bargaining mood at that time. So, in addition to having access to lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, we also have a fun outing. You never know about those scales. But, if you question something - the seller will quickly make you a "deal".

Many of the vendors are people with roots in Muslim families. Frequently, we will overhear some men talking business and at the beginning or ending of their meeting, we nearly always see a slight bow, hand to the forehead and hear - "Salaam"! This is the Islamic way of saying "peace". It sounds similar to the Jewish word for peace - "Shalom". One can not help but think and pray for peace between all the children of Abraham - Jews, Muslims and Christians. Jesus came to bring peace and it is within our grasp if we are willing to reason together and accept God's gift of His Son for all people.
No, I'm not preaching to anyone, just pointing out a good looking arbus (watermelon) that had light green flesh, but the buy said the meat was rose colored. We stayed with our striped melon.

But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. (Joshua 24:15)

O LORD, the God of our fathers ~ Thank you for the sparkling array of blessings that greet us on this new day. Give us wisdom so that we will more perfectly comprehend the certain peace that comes from devoting ourselves and our families to your superior Way. Help those who are wavering in their commitment to Christ, to have the moral courage to step forward and choose the only good and right path that leads to eternal life. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

There are still many very tasty apples that we want to check out personally before we make a purchase next week for the orphan home that houses infants who stay until their 4th birthday. They like us to bring some fruit when we come. Apples are handy because they can pulverize them and serve to the little ones. Thank you for your prayers as we look forward to our visit with the teenage boys and conducting a Bible lessons with them. We also give them a short English class that they enjoy also.
