WORD OF THE DAY - 16 May 2010

Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (1 John 5:5)

Кто побеждает мир, как не тот, кто верует, что Иисус есть Сын Божий? 1-e Иоанна 5:5 (Russian Synodal Version)

А хто світ перемагає, як не той, хто вірує, що Ісус то Син Божий? (1 Йоаново 5:5 Ukrainian)

Powerful and Mighty God ~ Thank you for this new Lord’s Day and the opportunity to assemble with other believers as we worship you and remember the great sacrifice that was paid on the cross for our sins. Give us victory over this sin plagued world as we trust and obey your One and Only Son. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.

We began Saturday morning back out at the big bazaar where we purchased shoes. We finally found the right size for one young man and we even got to taste some fresh local grown strawberries. When we arrived at the Boys Home, we were pleasantly surprised that our brother Nikolai Tkhor had impulsively decided to come and see first-hand what we are doing on Saturdays. This is very proper, since he is the one who introduced us to this good opportunity to teach the Gospel and show God's love to orphans. He was part of the group who originally founded this home and the peninsula. Now that he is a Christian, it is evident that everything is sweeter to his eyes. We receive much encouragement from this energetic octogenarian! He walked with us back up the long hill to where we catch a bus. Maybe it is about a two mile walk. This and our daily walks to the church meeting place and other destinations around town contribute to our good health. Galina says she is not yet convinced. We informed the boys and their teacher Margarita about our plans to travel to Magadan. Their school year is almost over, and the boys who have some semblance of a home life will spend the summer there. There are seven true orphan boys who stay there year round. This was our last lesson in the series we have been studying on Becoming People of Good Character. At the beginning of our study, I asked for a volunteer to come and write on the board all the qualities that we have been studying. Dima, one of the orphan boys came up and wrote them all from memory in the order that we have been studying. Margarita told us previously that he wants to attend college and become a teacher and return to work at the Boys Home. He will turn 18 in September and will have to leave the home, and we will do everything we can to stay in touch with him. They all agreed to continue studying with us this summer when we return on 19 June from Magadan. Thank you for the effective prayers.
