WORD OF THE DAY - 27 May 2010 from Magadan

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed on him, “If you continue in my word, then you are my disciples indeed.” (John 8:31)

Most Gracious and Kind Father in Heaven ~ Thank you for the numerous proofs that we see or see their effects and we positively conclude that we are on solid ground when we say “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” Give us wisdom as we learn more about our Lord so that we will be faithful to Him as our Perfect Master during all days of this mortal life. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Wednesday was another day filled with activities that are typical of what we are doing each day here in Magadan. In the morning, we discovered that our Internet was not working and when we called about it, we learned that we needed to come and put some more money on our account. Here you pay for your usage rather than a flat monthly fee as we have in Ukraine. The system in Magadan is much more beneficial for the ISP and more of a hassle for the user, since we must monitor our usage so that we don't suddenly have a big bill as was the case yesterday. Anyway, it is what we have and for that we are thankful since we are able to communicate with people all over the world. The photo of Galina is taken outside our apartment building where we live in Magadan. The big bird is one of the large seagulls that are very noisy every morning as they scavenge around the garbage dumpsters outside our building. This one is about the size of an average turkey. In the morning, we also went up to the outdoor bazaar (flea market if you please) that is mostly operated by people from China with cheap goods that have fancy labels. One young man whose mother we are studying with needed a pair of shoes, so we met him at the bazaar and Galina negotiated a deal. This is the pricing system -they tell you how much they want and you suggest what you would like to pay and then the bargaining begins. This seems to work all over the world. After that we stopped by the post office where we also pay for Internet and we later visited a few shops for things we need at home and for the church. Olga informed us yesterday when we met with her that she has two co-workers at the library who want to study English with us using the Bible. We will have our first meeting with them in a few days. We had individual Bible studies with two women Elena and Galina. Both have been visiting the church services prior to our arrival. Olga has been teaching Galina for some time. We expect that these two will be baptized soon. In fact we are already looking for a place to have baptisms. One sauna that rents their facility for 30 minutes at a time agreed for us to use their place. We will go have a look today. Last night we had another of our daily evangelistic meetings and had good attendance. I took one picture of one of the high hills that surround the city as we were leaving the meeting place. It was a few minutes past 9.00 PM, and the fog on the hills looked beautiful. It is still cool enough that we always need to wear a jacket when we are outside. Thank you for the many prayers.
